Automation:
Automation is a process in which automated testing tools are
used to create, execute, control and maintain automated testing
scripts. The automation process compares the actual result with
the predicted expected results. At the end of the test script
execution the automation tool gives the pass and fail status as
output.
There are many test automation tools in the market however
IBM's Rational quality management and HP’s Mercury Quality
Center & Mercury Performance Center are among the best in the
industry.
Testing tools can be broadly categorized into functional testing
tools & performance testing tools. They can be extremely helpful
when performing stress testing, performance tuning, regression
testing, or when you need to test multiple number of times using
volume of data (example: pricing rate sheet validation for
mortgage applications, underwriting validation for Insurance,
Mortgage and banking industries, Federal & State Tax validation
for payroll etc). Automation tools can also be used to create test
data for manual testing in QA, DEV and UAT environments.
